The two holes story
Yamada asked Shimada, “What’s the thing that becomes larger the more you take away from it?”
“I don’t know,” Shimada answered.
“It’s a hole,” Yamada told him laughingly.
“All right,” Shimada said, “Let me tell you a story about a hole.”
“A painter kept two cats. One was large and the other was small. One day, his friend noticed there were two holes in the door of his house. One was large and the other was small.
“What are those two holes for?” he asked the painter.
“I keep two cats.” The painter replied. “One’s large and the other’s small. The large hole is for large cat and the small hole is for the small cat.”
“How silly!” his friend exclaimed. “Why can’t the small cat use the same hole as the large cat?”
“You’re right,” said the painter. “I hadn’t thought of that.”
