These holy men spent most of their time praying and fasting. But soon they found the village too noisy. And so one day Yam said to his friend. “Syed, there is an island near here where we could go for some peace and quite.”
“That’s a wonderful idea” said Syed. “But how do we go there?”
“That’s easy. We hire a boat,” said Yam, and that is what they did. Their boat was very simple, and they took nothing to eat or drink.
God took Yam and Syed Rahman to the island safely and when they got there, they each went a different way to pray and fast. Yam walked up the hill, and Syed stayed near the sea.
For two days, the man prayed without having anything to eat and drink. Then Yam began to feel sick. At first he tried to hide his illness from his friend, but soon his throat began to feel as if it were on fire, and his lips grew dry and cracked. Yam went to where his friend was praying.
“Syed,” he called. “Syed.”
“Yam,” said Syed. “You look weak.” He felt his friend’s forehead. “Why, you are burning up with fever.”
Syed made a place for Yam to rest, and while Yam slept, he prayed, after praying for some time. Syed shook him by the soldier.
“Wake up, Yam.” He said, “Wake to the boat now. I think you’ll find all you need there.”
Yam walked to the boat, and when he got there he found food and a jar of cool fresh water. He ate and drank, then went back to Syed and told him what happened.
“God is merciful,” said Syed. “Now we must go on with our prayers.”

Why cats and dogs always fight story

Why cats and dogs always fight story
(Favourite stories from Taiwan)

caninest.com
Long, long ago, in northern Taiwan, there lived a farmer and his wife. They had a ring of gold. They did not know it was a lucky ring. Whoever owned it would have enough to eat. The farmer and his wife sold it to a jeweler. Soon afterwards, they grew poorer and poorer. They did not even have enough money to buy food.
The couple had a dog and a cat. They also did not have any food to eat. The animals wanted to help their owners but they did know what to do.
“I must sure that must have been a magic ring,” the dog said.
“Perhaps,” answered the cat. “But how can we get it back from the jeweler?”
After many days, they thought of a plan.
“You must catch a mouse,” said the dog. “Then carry it to the jeweller’s shop. The ring is locked up there in a box. The mouse must gnaw a hole in the box and fetch out the ring. If the mouse does not want to help, you must bite him to death.”
Soon the cat caught a mouse. The dog followed behind while the cat carried it to the jeweller’s shop. The mouse crept into the shop and gnawed a hole in the box and brought out the ring.
The cat put the ring in its mouth and ran home. The dog followed. Now the dog could only run on the ground. He had to go all the way around the houses and through the streets. But the cat was able to run over the house-tops. So the cat arrived home long before the dog. She brought the ring to the farmer and his wife.
“This is a magic ring,” said the cat. “You must not part with it otherwise we shall be poor and have nothing to eat. I have brought it back. Please keep it carefully. You will find that we shall now be able to live comfortably again.
“What a clever cat!” said the farmer. “We shall look after you as if you were our own child.”
Just then the dog ran in. the farmer and his wife beat him for not helping the cat bring home the ring. The cat sat on the lap of the farmer’s wife and purred. So the dog became very angry with the cat. Every time he saw her after that, he chased her and tried to bite her.
This is why cats and dogs always fight.

Lebai malang story (unlucky religious teacher)

Lebai malang story
(Favourite stories from Malaysia)

Lebai malang story (unlucky religious teacher)
Long, long ago. The name of Lebai Malang (Unlucky Religious Teacher) was known all over Malaysia. Some people are born to have good fortune in life, others are always unlucky. Lebai Malang was one of those who are always unlucky.
One day, three people approached him. One asked him to hold a funeral service. Another wanted him to recite the Koran. The third invited him to attend a dinner being given for his son who had just completed his religious studies.
Lebai Malang did not know what to do. He had never been asked to do three things on one day before.
“If I go to the funeral,” he thought, “I’m sure to get a present of cloth. If I
recite the Koran. I shall get as many cakes and sweets as I can eat. If I attend the dinner, I can eat as much as I want.”
At last he decided. “I shall go to the funeral,” he said. “The holy prophet said this is a duty.”
Unfortunately, by the time he arrived at the first man’s house, the funeral was over. He went on to the second man’s house, but the reciting of the Koran had finished. He was too late for the dinner at the third man’s house but there was a little food left over for him.
Sadly, he returned home. “I’ll climb my coconut tree and pick some coconuts,” he thought. He put the food he was carrying on the ground at the foot of the tree. He had only climbed half-way up the tree when he saw a dog stealing his food. He slid down the tree as fast as he could and chased the dog. The dog dived into a hole in a tree to escape. Lebai Malang thought, “Ah, now he can’t  get away!” he took off his clothes and stuffed them in the hole. He didn’t know that the dog had got out through another hole at the back of the tree.
Just at that moment, two pigeons flying overhead mistook him for a tree-stump. They landed on his head. “Cheh! Who do you think you are?” he said. Before they could fly away, he quickly caught hold of both of them. He then tried to transfer the bird in his right hand to his left hand  so that he could pick up his clothes with his right hand. While he was doing so, both birds flew away. Lebai Malang scratched his head, wondering what to do. As he bent down to pick up his clothes, a thief pushed him from behind. He fell over, and in a flash the thief snatched his clothes and ran away.
So Lebai Malang, un happy, hungry and naked, tried to enter his house unseen through the kitchen at the back. But his wife saw him and chased him round the house, and scolded and beat him until he cried for mercy.

“Only Nabi Sulaeman may play the drum,” said Kancil quickly. “I have to prevent anybody from playing that drum.”

Contoh Narrative text
“Cucumbers! Hmm, I do happen to be thirsty at the moment,” said kancil pensively. “Well … if you tell me where I can find there nice cucumbers, I shall pass my task on to you for a moment until I have quenched my thirst. The Nabi sulaeman not object to that, I think.”
Contoh Narrative text
“That’s a good idea!” tiger exclaimed.
“but remember, if the Nabi sulaeman finds out and punished you, you must not blame me.” Warned Kancil.

lovereading4kids.co.uk
Now, Mantu had an elephant of his very own. His name was Opie. He was just a baby and Mantu loved him very much. Mantu whispered to Opies’ ear that someday he would become the biggest, strongest, and bravest elephants in the jungle. The other elephants heard this. They began to laugh and made rude noises with their trunks. “We’re so big and tall, but you’re so small. You’re nothing at all,” said one of the big elephants.
Mantu looked up at the huge elephants with a mischievous glint in his eye. “You’re so tall and can see far away. We can see what is happening down here in the jungle. In fact, we would be the first to see any slithering snakes that may be a danger.” After hearing the word snakes, the elephants screeched and off they go thundering in fright.
“Did I say there were  snakes?” giggled Mantu. “No, I don’t think so,” smiled Opie. Mantu then climbed upon his little friend’s back and went home to the village to tell everyone about the foolish elephants.

“Where’s the wolf?” they asked. The boy fell back and started laughing. The villagers realized that the boy had played a trick. They were angry and went back to the work.
The next day, the villagers heard the shepherd boy shouting for help again. They rushed towards the hill, and again the boy laughed at them.
On the third day, a wolf really came and attacked the sheep. “Help! Help! A wolf is attacking my sheep!” shouted the boy at the top of his voice. But nobody bothered him this time. The villagers thought that the boy was trying to fool them again. The boy watched sadly as the wolf killed all his sheep

Reward for a glass of milk story

Reward for a glass of milk story
Reward for a glass of milk story
A poor boy sold goods from door to door to pay his school fee. One day, he had only a little money to left and he was very hungry. He decided to ask for some food at the next house he visited. However, he was so nervous when a lovely young woman opened the door.
He only asked a glass of water. The woman thought that the boy was hungry so she gave him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly and then asked, “How much do I owe you?”
“You don’t owe me anything,” she replied. “mother has taught us never to accept pay for a kindness.”
He said, “Then I thank you from my heart.” As the poor boy left that house, he felt stronger. His faith in God was getting stronger too. He had been ready to stop his study but now he got a spirit to continue it until he became a doctor.
Some years later that young woman became critically ill. She was sent to the big city to cure her disease. The poor boy was the doctor. When he knew the name of the town she came from, he went to meet her. He recognized her at once. He tried hard to save the woman’s life. From then on he gave special attention to the sick woman. After a long struggle, the woman could be cured. The poor boy paid all the bill. He  wrote “Paid in full with one glass of milk” under the bill. When the woman opened the bill, tears of joy flooded her eyes as her happy heart preyed. “Thank you, God, that your love has spread abroad through human hearts and hands.”

Once upon a time, there was a little boy. He lived with his elder brother by the sea in the Yeh Liu district of northern Taiwan. His brother’s wife treated him very badly. He was very lonely. “I am sorry, I am not a doctor. How can I help her?” asked the boy.
“I am sure if you came to see her, she would feel much better.” Replied the old man.
The little boy was frightened. “Surely I would drown if I went into the sea?” he said.
“Don’t be afraid. I shall look after you. You will not drown,” said the old man.
The old man looked kind and gentle. The boy no longer felt afraid. He followed the old man into the sea.

The cat and the rooster

The cat and the rooster story
The cat and the roster tory
Once upon a time there lived a Cat and a Cock who loved one another dearly. The Cat would play his fiddle and the Cock would sing, the Cat would go out to get food for the two of them, and the Cock would stay at home and look after the house. Every time the Cat prepared to go out he would say to the Cock:
"You mustn't let anyone into the house, Cock, or go out yourself, no matter who calls you."
"I won't, don't you worry," the Cock would reply, and he would get into the house and stay there till the Cat came home.
Now, a Fox once saw the Cock and decided to lure him out and catch him. She crept up to the window of their house when the Cat was out and called out:
"Come out, Cock, and join me, and I'll give you grains of wheat and some water clear and sweet."
But the Cock called out in reply: "Cock-a-doodle-doo, I'll do without, For I promised Puss I'd not go out!"
The Fox saw that this was not the way to go about things, so one night she crept up to the house, threw some wheat grains under the window for the Cock to see and herself hid behind a bush.
By and by the Cat went out hunting as usual, and the Cock opened the window and looked out. There was no one about, he saw, but there, scattered on the ground, lay some luscious grains of wheat. The Cock was eager to eat them and said to himself:
"I think I'll go out and peck at those grains for a bit. There is no one about, so no one will see me or tell Puss on me."
But no sooner did he step over the threshold than the Fox was upon him. She seized him by the scruff of his neck and away she ran to her own house! And the Cock called out to the Cat:
"Save me, Brother Puss, I pray!
Foxy's taking me far away.
For her bushy tail
I can't see the trail.
If you don't come, friend,
I will meet my end."

Now, the Cat was a long way off and he did not hear the Cock, and by the time he returned home it was too late for him to go after the Fox. He tried to overtake her, but could not, so back he went home and wept and cried. But he got to thinking after a while, and, taking his fiddle and a bright-pictured sack, set out for the Fox's house.
Now, the Fox had four daughters and a son, and before going out hunting that day, she told them to keep an eye on the Cock and to heat a potfull of water so that as soon as she was back she could kill and cook him for dinner.
"And mind you let no one into the house while I'm away," she said.
Away she went, and the Cat came up to the house, stood under the window and began to play and to sing the following song:
"Foxy's house is big and tall,
Her four little daughters are beauties all,
And Pilipko, her only son,
Is very sweet to look upon.
Step outside, young Foxy, do,
And I'll sing some more for you!"

Now, the Fox's eldest daughter felt that she must go and see who it was playing and she said to the others:
"Stay here in the house and I'll go and see who it is that plays so well."
She came out of the house, and the Cat rapped her smartly on the nose, whisked her into his sack and began to play and to sing again:
"Foxy's house is big and tall,
Her four little daughters are beauties all,
And Pilipko, her only son,
Is very sweet to look upon.
Step outside, young Foxy, do,
And I'll sing some more for you!"

The Fox's second daughter went out to see who it was playing, and the Cat rapped her on the nose and whisked her into his sack. And the very same thing happened to the Fox's two younger daughters. There sat their brother Pilipko in the house and waited for his sisters, but they did not come back.
"I think I'll go out and get them to come home," said he to himself, "or our mother will give me a good hiding when she gets back."
He stepped outside, and the Cat rapped him on the nose too and whisked him into the sack! Then he hanged the sack on a dry willow tree and ran into the Fox's house. He found the Cock and untied him, and the two of them ate all of the Fox's food, overturned the pot of boiling water, broke all the dishes and ran home. And the Cock did just as the Cat told him ever after and never, never disobeyed him.
